Why Use a Fire Alarm Monitoring System?
Fire alarm monitoring is a crucial component of a building's fire/life safety plan, integral to the emergency response system. A monitored fire alarm system provides a 24-hour watchdog for the building's fire safety plan.
When a detection device is activated (fire, smoke, water flow), the fire alarm panel initiates the building's notification appliances, alerting occupants of the alarm. Simultaneously, the fire alarm monitoring service receives the signal, promptly alerts local authorities for dispatch of fire responders, and notifies responsible parties of the fire alarm condition at their property.
It's the Code. NFPA 101 Life Safety Code Section 9.6, mandates that any required fire detection and alarm system for occupancy must be equipped to automatically transmit a fire alarm notification directly to the municipal fire department.
How Does Fire Alarm Monitoring Work?
When a fire monitor system (such as a smoke detector, heat detector, flame detector, water flow switch, or sprinkler head) is activated, it sends a signal to the fire alarm control panel through wired or wireless transmission. Upon receiving this signal, the control panel activates the local notification devices and triggers the alarm signal at the monitoring central station.
Upon receiving the transmission, the central station ensures that local authorities - the fire department - are dispatched automatically, which is much faster than making a 911 call.
At the same time, the central station operator contacts the registered responsible parties for the monitored account, typically including the property manager, owner, and other essential personnel.
Fire Alarm Notification Speeds
- Mesh networks offer the fastest alarm signal transmission to central station monitoring.
- Cellular and Internet provide quick transmission speeds next in line.
- Traditional telephone lines are the slowest method for alarm signal transmission.
Mesh Radio Monitoring Service - METRONET
METRO SAFETY & FIRE, INC. has partnered with AES and is registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It has also been awarded a license for a radio frequency to operate its own radio network, known as METRONET.
More about AES & METRONET
AES operates a private wireless mesh radio network for alarm monitoring services, enhancing Fire Alarm and Burglar system monitoring. Subscriber units within this network act as receivers, transmitters, and repeaters, ensuring messages are relayed swiftly to the central monitoring station via the shortest available path.
As a registered subscriber, Metro Safety & Fire, Inc. utilizes pre-programmed communicators on our proprietary FCC frequency to maintain the high-quality fire monitor system services we're recognized for.
Mesh Radio Monitoring as a Wise Investment
AES mesh radio monitoring systems are installed and maintained by technicians trained specifically in these products, ensuring professional quality.
Our METRONET AES Subscriber network, which monitors fire and life safety systems, offers significant benefits.
- Each unit has at least two communication paths to the Central Station, many Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) permit the AES Subscriber unit as the sole monitoring method.
- Customers can forgo expensive telephone lines and superfluous monitoring services, leading to substantial savings on fire/life safety system monitoring costs.
- Unlike cellular and landline options, there is no sunset mesh radio network technology. The AES-IntelliNet network, relying on the enduring technology of radio waves, remains ever-relevant.
- Should clients opt out of METRONET, their owned radio equipment can be transferred to another provider affordably.
Metro Safety & Fire alarm monitoring services are a great value and our dedication to customer satisfaction is recognized in the communities we serve.
